The manufacturing method
of o-propyl phenol
o-propyl phenol (OPP) is an important chemical raw material, which is widely used in fungicides, antioxidants, spices, pesticides and other fields. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of o-propyl phenol, including raw material preparation, reaction steps, post-treatment and so on.
1. Raw Material Preparation
The production of o-propylphenol requires the preparation of the following raw materials: phenol, propylene. Among them, phenol is the main raw material, and propylene is the alkylating agent.
2. Reaction Step
1. Alkylation Reaction
Phenol and propylene are mixed in a molar ratio of 1:1.1-1.2, catalyst sulfuric acid or hydrofluoric acid is added, and alkylation reaction is carried out at 70-90 ℃. The reaction produces o-propyl phenol and by-product cumene. The mechanism of alkylation reaction is that the phenolic hydroxyl group of phenol and propylene undergo electrophilic substitution reaction under the action of acid catalyst to generate ortho propyl substituted phenol.
2. Neutralization and washing
After the reaction is completed, the reaction solution is neutralized with alkali to a pH of 7-8 to remove the catalyst residue. Extraction with an organic solvent is then carried out to separate the organic and aqueous phases. The organic phase contains o-propyl phenol and unreacted phenol, and the aqueous phase contains by-products cumene and inorganic salts.
3. Distillation Separation
The organic phase is
distilled, first to distill off unreacted phenol and then to collect the fraction of o-propylphenol. Since o-propylphenol and cumene have large differences in their boiling points, they can be separated by distillation.
3. post-treatment
1. Refining
The o-propyl phenol obtained by
distillation contains a small amount of cumene and other impurities and needs to be refined. Commonly used refining methods include recrystallization, distillation, adsorption, etc. Among them, recrystallization is the most commonly used method, which can increase the purity of o-propyl phenol to more than 99%.
2. Packaging and storage
refined o-propyl phenol needs to be packaged and stored. Usually use iron drums or plastic drums for packaging, sealed storage, avoid direct sunlight and high temperature.
In summary, the method for producing o-propylphenol includes the steps of raw material preparation, alkylation reaction, neutralization and washing, distillation separation and post-treatment. In the manufacturing process, attention should be paid to the control of reaction conditions, product quality and environmental protection requirements. At the same time, in order to improve production efficiency and reduce costs, it is necessary to continuously optimize production processes and equipment.
