Production method

Industrially, it can be recovered from the by-product of propylene sulfuric acid hydration to isopropyl alcohol. Propylene reacts with sulfuric acid to form isopropyl hydrosulphuric acid ester, and then hydrolyzes to isopropyl alcohol. During the reaction, isopropyl hydrosulphuric acid ester and propylene continue to react to generate diisopropyl sulfate, which reacts with isopropyl alcohol to generate isopropyl hydrosulphuric acid ester and diisopropyl ether. When the material after sulfuric acid hydration is stripped by steam in the desorption Tower, isopropyl alcohol and diisopropyl ether are released from the acid solution, diisopropyl ether is first obtained from the top of the tower through distillation. In the laboratory, isopropyl ether can be obtained by dehydration of isopropyl alcohol with sulfuric acid, and can also be prepared by hydrotreating isopropyl alcohol with acetone. It can also be formed by catalytic condensation of isopropyl alcohol and propylene. Diisopropyl ether can also be prepared by ion exchange resin method.
