Phenol A used to make epoxy resin, polycarbonate, polyphenoxy, etc.
Phenol A it is obtained by condensation of phenol and acetone in acidic medium.
When making phenol A with sulfuric acid as catalyst , the acid concentration is 72.5-76.3, and the reaction temperature is about 40℃. The reaction is carried out in a stirred tank, which can be produced by batch method or a continuous production device can be arranged. The product is neutralized, isolated and separated into crude phenol A, and the finished product is refined by dimethylbenzene-water extraction. Sulfuric acid method requires less equipment and simple process, but the product quality is poor, the raw material consumption is high, and there are more "three wastes", which is only suitable for medium and small batch production.
In order to obtain the polymerization grade of phenol A with good quality, the commonly used method of industry make is hydrogen chloride gas as catalyst. Acetone and phenol are mixed, and dry hydrogen chloride is used as catalyst to react under normal pressure. The reaction is carried out at 50-60 ℃ for 8-9 hours, and the concentration of hydrogen chloride in gas phase is kept above 96. In addition to producing bisphenol A, the reaction also generates some isomer, trihydroxy or monohydroxy byproducts. These small amounts of impurities do not affect the production of epoxy resin.
However, when used to manufacture polycarbonate, it must be refined. Tiger gram process is distillation and extraction crystallization under pressure to refine phenol A, which reduces the cost of the product. Raw material consumption quota: phenol 940 kg/t, acetone 320 kg/t, sulfuric acid (98)500 kg/t.
