It is used as an organic chemical raw material and solvent, and is mainly used to produce ethylene glycol, ethanolamine and non-ionic surfactant; It is used for organic synthesis; Ethylene oxide is the intermediate of herbicide alachlor, and it is an important chemical raw material, used for manufacturing ethylene glycol, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, ethylene glycol..
In 1859, French chemistry Wurtz first discovered that ethylene oxide could be prepared by the interaction between 2-chloroethanol and potassium hydroxide. This method has developed into the early chlorohydrin method for industrial production, which has been successively adopted by various countries and was once the only industrial production method for a period of time. In 1983, the United Carbide Company (UCC) of the United States adopted the method of direct oxidation of ethylene and air to produce ethylene oxide (I .e. oxidation method), which was first built and put into operation. After further improvement, France naphtha Chemical Company (Naphtachimie) did not build the world's second oxidation device until 1953. Since then, the traditional chlorohydrin method has gradually been replaced by oxidation method. In 1958, American Shell used oxygen instead of air to directly produce ethylene oxide. By 1975, all ethylene oxide production in the United States adopted direct oxidation. Ethylene oxide production in the world is mainly based on three technologies: American Shell oxygen method, American Scientific Design Corporation (SD) oxygen-air method, and American UCC air-oxygen method. 1. The chlorohydrin method is divided into two steps. The first step is to introduce ethylene and chlorine into water to generate 2-chloroethanol. The second step is to react with 2-chloroethanol with alkali (usually lime milk) to generate ethylene oxide. 2. Oxidation method can be divided into air method and oxygen method. The former uses air as the oxidant, while the latter uses oxygen with a concentration greater than 95% (volume) as the oxidant. In addition, oxygen-enriched air is also useful as oxidant. The industrial production process of oxidation is divided into three parts: Reaction, ethylene oxide recovery and ethylene oxide refining.

1. Storage precautions store in a cool and ventilated warehouse for flammable gases. Keep away from fire and heat source. Avoid lighting. The temperature should not exceed 30℃. It should be stored separately with acids, bases, alcohols and edible chemicals, and should not be mixed. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities are adopted. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to generate sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment. 2. The equipment should be sealed to prevent running, running, dripping and leaking. Strengthen ventilation facilities. Operators should wear protective equipment. Activated carbon gauze mask or compressed air and compressed anaerobic breathing mask should be worn in high concentration environment. Faucet and shower equipment should be provided near the device. Up to admissible concentration 0.001g/m3 in the air.
