Product Description

Methacrylic acid is colorless crystalline or transparent liquid with pungent odor. Soluble in hot water, soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Easy to polymerize water-soluble polymers. Combustible, in case of high heat and open flame, it is dangerous to burn, and it can produce toxic gas when decomposed by heat.

Nature Description

It is colorless transparent combustible liquid at normal temperature. Melting point 14℃, boiling point 159-163 ℃(100kPa), relative density 1.0153(20/4 ℃), refractive index 1.4314, flash point 77℃, viscosity (25℃)1.3mPa · s. Soluble in hot water, ethanol and most organic solvents. It is easy to polymerize to form a water-soluble polymer. Can form explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is 2.1-12.5.

Product Applications

Used in the manufacture of coatings, insulation material, adhesives and ion exchange resin; Used as organic reagents; Important intermediates of organic chemical raw materials and polymers. The organic glass produced by methyl methacrylate, its most important derivative product, can be used in windows of airplanes and civil buildings, and can also be processed into buttons..

Production method

There are two main industrial production methods of methacrylic acid, namely acetone cyanohydrin method is isobutene (tert-butyl alcohol) oxidation method. 1. Acetone cyanohydrin method acetone and hydrocyanic acid react in the presence of alkali catalyst to generate acetone cyanohydrin, then react with concentrated sulfuric acid to generate methacrylamide sulfate, and then methacrylic acid can be generated after hydrolysis. In production, acetone cyanohydrin and sulfuric acid are required to contain no moisture, otherwise acetone or α-hydroxyisobutyrate will be produced and left in the product, which will affect the product quality. Methyl acrylic acid is produced by acetone cyanohydrin method, and sodium cyanide (>87)898kg, acetone (98.5)1100kg and sulfuric acid (smoke) 4080kg are consumed per ton of product. 2. Isobutene (tert-butyl alcohol) oxidation Isobutene is oxidized in two steps, methacrolein is generated in the first step, methacrylic acid is generated in the second step, and then qualified products are obtained through rectification. 3. Methacrylic nitrile hydrolysis method uses isobutene as raw material and is obtained by ammonia oxygen hydrolysis. 4. Methacrolein is prepared by oxidation of isobutane oxidation, and then obtained by oxidation.
