Nature Description

White acicular crystal or monoclinic prism crystal. It has spicy flavor. Flammable. Low toxicity. It is stable in the air, but it gradually changes color when it comes to light. Melting point 159 ℃, relative density 1.443, boiling point 211 ℃(2.66kPa). Sublimation at 76℃. When heated sharply, it is dissolved into phenol and carbon dioxide. 1g of this product can be dissolved in 460 ml water, 15 ml hot water, 2.7 ml alcohol, 3 ml acetone, 42 ml chloroform, 3 ml ether, 135 ml benzene, 52 ml turpentine. The pH of the saturated aqueous solution is 2.4. Its aqueous solution is acidic.

Used as dye intermediate, disinfectant, food preservative, etc.

Production method

Phenol reacts with sodium hydroxide to generate sodium phenolate. After distillation and dehydration, carbon dioxide is used for carboxylation reaction to prepare sodium salicylate, and then sulfuric acid is used to acidify to obtain crude product. The crude product is refined by sublimation. Raw material consumption quota: phenol (98)704 kg/t, caustic soda (95)417kg/t, sulfuric acid (95)500kg/t, carbon dioxide (99)467kg/t.
