Colorless flammable liquid with irritating odor. Melting Point-6.5 ℃, boiling point 127.4 ℃, relative density 1.0897(20/20 ℃), refractive index 1.4379, specific heat capacity 0.1990kJ/(kg ℃), flash point 33.9 ℃. Soluble in common organic solvents, insoluble in water. Active chemical properties, easy polymerization, acid, alkali, Amine, peroxide can play a promoting role, accelerate the polymerization to cause explosion. It can be decomposed into carbon dioxide when exposed to water.

Production method

In industry, acetic acid is used to produce diketene, and acetone, acetic anhydride and acetate can also be used as raw materials for thermal decomposition. Acetone thermal decomposition method can be used for small-scale production. Due to the by-product methane, the purity of ethenone gas obtained by this method is low, and it is difficult to remove residual acetone at the same time. In the presence of triethyl phosphate, glacial acetic acid cleaved at 750-780 ℃ to obtain ethenone, and then polymerized at 8-10 ℃ to generate double ethenone.
