The industrial production methods of benzoic acid include toluene liquid phase air oxidation, benzyltrichloro aqueous hydrolysis and phthalic anhydride decarboxylation, while toluene liquid phase air oxidation is the most common. Toluene and air are introduced into the reactor containing cobalt naphthenic acid catalyst, and the reaction is carried out under the conditions of reaction temperature 140-160℃ and operating pressure 0.2-0.3MPa to generate benzoic acid, crude benzoic acid is obtained by steaming off unreacted toluene, and then distilled under reduced pressure to obtain the finished product. The final product obtained by phthalic anhydride decarboxylation is not easy to refine, and the production cost is high, which is only used in the manufacturing process of medicine and other products with small batches. The products of toluene chloride method are not suitable for food. Benzoic acid has different specifications for industrial use, food use, medicine use, etc. Food Grade should meet the requirements of GB1901-80, the content is above 99.5, the melting point is 121-123 ℃, and quality indexes such as easy oxide; Easy carbide; Chlorinated compounds; Burning residue; Heavy metals; Arsenic content are specified. Raw material consumption quota: toluene 1140kg/t; Cobalt naphthenic acid 4kg/t. In addition, benzoic acid can be co-produced when benzaldehyde is produced from toluene.
