Nature Description

Colorless to light yellow liquid. Melting Point-19 °c, boiling point 95 °c, 82 °c (3.07kPa),81 °c (2.0kPa), Flash Point 63 °c. Relative density 0.9267(25℃), refractive index 1.400(19℃). Soluble in water, ethanol, ether and other general organic solvents, insoluble in petroleum ether and carbon disulfide. When heated, it is dissolved into acetone and hydrocyanic acid.

It is an intermediate of organic glass monomer-methyl methacrylate, and is also used in organic synthesis, pesticide manufacturing, etc.

Production method

Hydrocyanic acid occurs in the action of sodium cyanide and concentrated sulfuric acid. Hydrocyanic acid reacts with acetone after distillation and purification to generate acetone cyanohydrin: Raw material hydrocyanic acid can also use the byproducts of acrylic nitrile. Laboratory synthesis or reagent production is the same as the above process route. The operation method is as follows: in 5L boiling flask-3-neck, add 500g(9.7mol) solution of powdered sodium cyanide and 1.2L water and 900ml(713G, 12.3mol) acetone. Place the flask in an ice bath and stir vigorously. When the temperature dropped to 15℃, 2.1L(8.5mol)40 sulfuric acid was added slowly, and the addition was completed within 3 hours and kept at 10-20 ℃. After adding the acid, continue stirring for 15min. Let the salt settle down. The generated acetone cyanohydrin is poured out by decanting to separate it from the aqueous layer. The sodium cyanide sulfate of the aqueous layer is filtered off and washed with acetone. The filtrate and washings were combined and extracted with ether. Combine the extract with the original acetone cyanohydrin. Dry with anhydrous sodium sulfate. Steam off ether and acetone in a water bath. The residue was distilled under reduced pressure and cut from the set 78-82 °c at 2.0-2.67kPa. Product 640-650g, yield 77-78. Product Specification: as the intermediate of organic glass production, it is brown liquid with a content of ≥ 93. Raw material consumption quota: sodium cyanide (>93)557kg/t; Acetone (98)650kg/t; Sulfuric acid (93)704kg/t.
