1. Jilin Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Transformation and Upgrading Project

the Refining and Chemical Transformation and Upgrading Project of Jilin Petrochemical Company is a major project of strategic significance, which is located in the Jilin Chemical Industry Circular Economy Demonstration Park in Jilin City. The project covers a number of plants in the eastern, central and western parts of the park, including oil refineries, high-carbon alcohol plants, organic synthesis plants, calcium carbide plants, dye plants, fine chemical plants, acrylonitrile plants, fertilizer plants and synthetic resin plants. The core of the project is to build a new 1.2 million-ton/year ethylene plant and a series of downstream units, such as 1 million-ton/year pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation and 450000-ton/year aromatics extraction combined unit, in order to promote the high-quality development of PetroChina's refining business and optimize the refining business layout in Northeast China.

Mechanical Completion Milestone of 2. Bisphenol A Plant

after 19 months of hard work and close cooperation, the 240000-ton/year bisphenol A plant in the Jilin chemical transformation and upgrading project contracted by Huanqiu Jilin Company was successfully completed on December 30, 2024. This milestone marks the successful entry of the project from the construction phase into the commissioning and trial operation phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent production and operation.

3. bisphenol A industry capacity rapid growth

in recent years, China's bisphenol A production capacity has shown a rapid development trend. By the end of 2024, the total production capacity has reached about 5.93 million tons/year, with a compound growth rate of 31%. This cycle has become the fastest growing period of China's bisphenol A industry, and the new production capacity tends to be large-scale development, and most of them are integrated supporting devices. Especially from 2022 to 2024, the growth rate of bisphenol A production capacity has accelerated significantly, with new production capacity reaching 1.41 million tons/year, 1.05 million tons/year and 1.056 million tons/year respectively, of which the production capacity growth rate in 2022 is as high as 58%.

The newly-built bisphenol A production capacity is widely distributed in East China, Northeast China, North China, Central China and other regions. In terms of industry concentration, there is a trend of increasing and then decreasing. Although the industry concentration has fluctuated, on the whole, the large-scale and integrated development trend of the bisphenol A industry has become increasingly obvious. In 2024, the number of enterprises with a production capacity of more than 400000 tons will reach 6, accounting for about 51% of the total production capacity; the number of enterprises with a production capacity of 200000 tons and above will reach 10.

With the rapid expansion of bisphenol A production capacity, the number of enterprises in the industry is increasing. However, in the context of overcapacity, companies do not have absolute control over prices, and there is no significant difference in product quality. This has led to increased competition in the industry and shrinking profits in the industry. For small and medium-sized enterprises, its development will become increasingly difficult. In the future, with the intensification of market competition and the compression of profits, the bisphenol A industry may accelerate the reshuffle, and the industry concentration is expected to further increase.
