[Chemical Knowledge]:The production and manufacturing method and process of polybutylene terephthalate.

Polybutylene terephthalate (Polybutylene Terephthalate, referred to as PBT) is a high-performance engineering plastics, with excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, chemical resistance and electrical insulation, widely used in automotive, electrical and electronic, mechanical, chemical and other fields. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of polybutylene terephthalate in detail.

1. Raw Material Preparation

1. Terephthalic acid (Terephthalic Acid, referred to as TPA): Terephthalic acid is the main raw material for the production of PBT, usually using purified terephthalic acid (PTA) as raw material.
2. 1,4-Butanediol (BDO):1,4-Butanediol is another major raw material for the production of PBT, which is used to react with terephthalic acid to form PBT.

2. esterification reaction

adding TPA and BDO into an esterification reactor according to a certain molar ratio, usually using a batch or continuous esterification reactor. Under the action of catalyst, TPA and BDO were esterified to produce two butyl terephthalate (BTD). The esterification reaction needs to be carried out at a certain temperature and pressure to ensure the smooth progress of the reaction. At the same time, it is necessary to control the acidity and moisture of the reaction system to avoid the occurrence of side reactions.

3. Polycondensation Reaction

After the esterification reaction is completed, the generated BTD is transferred into a polycondensation reactor for polycondensation reaction. The polycondensation reaction is carried out at a high temperature under a high degree of vacuum, and by removing water produced by the reaction, the polycondensation reaction between BTD molecules is promoted to produce a high molecular weight PBT. The polycondensation reaction needs to control the reaction temperature and vacuum degree to ensure the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the product.

4. Post-Treatment
After completion of the
polycondensation reaction, the obtained PBT is subjected to post-treatment including steps of pelletizing, drying, packaging and the like. Granulating is to cut PBT into particles of a certain length and shape to facilitate subsequent processing; drying is to remove the moisture in PBT and avoid affecting its processing performance; packaging is to protect the product and facilitate transportation and storage.

In summary, the production of polybutylene terephthalate requires steps such as raw material preparation, esterification reaction, polycondensation reaction, and post-treatment. In the production process, it is necessary to strictly control the process parameters of each process to ensure the quality and performance of the product. At the same time, it is also necessary to pay attention to safety production and environmental protection requirements to ensure the safety and sustainability of the production process.
