In the field of chemical production raw materials, chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) is an important polymer material with excellent weather resistance, oil resistance, ozone resistance and chemical corrosion resistance. There are two main methods of manufacturing CPE: suspension method and solution method. This article will detail the two manufacturing methods and the specific operation steps.
1. suspension method
suspension method is a method of chlorination reaction by directly contacting polyethylene powder with chlorine gas under stirring. The specific operation steps are as follows:
1. ingredients: polyethylene powder, dispersant, water and other raw materials are added to the reactor in a certain proportion.
2. Stirring and ventilation: Open the stirring device to fully mix the raw materials, and at the same time pass chlorine gas for chlorination reaction.
3. Temperature control: During the reaction, it is necessary to control the temperature in the reactor within a suitable range to ensure the smooth progress of the chlorination reaction.
4. Terminate the reaction: when the degree of chlorination reaches the predetermined requirement, stop the chlorine gas and end the reaction.
5. post-treatment: the reaction product is subjected to centrifugal separation, washing, drying and other operations to obtain the chlorinated polyethylene product.
2. solution method
solution method is a method of dissolving polyethylene in an organic solvent and then introducing chlorine gas for chlorination reaction. The specific operation steps are as follows:
1. ingredients: polyethylene, organic solvent, initiator and other raw materials are added to the reaction kettle according to a certain proportion.
2. Dissolution: Under stirring, the polyethylene is completely dissolved in the organic solvent.
3. Chlorine gas: Chlorine gas is introduced for chlorination reaction, and the reaction temperature and chlorine gas flow rate need to be controlled to maintain a stable reaction rate.
4. Terminate the reaction: when the degree of chlorination reaches the predetermined requirement, the chlorine gas is stopped to end the reaction.
5. post-treatment: the reaction product is dissolved, washed, dried and other operations to obtain chlorinated polyethylene products.
The above are the two main manufacturing methods of CPE, and different methods have different advantages and disadvantages. The suspension method has the advantages of simple equipment, convenient operation and low production cost, but the product quality is relatively poor; the solution method has higher product quality, but the production cost is relatively high. In the actual production process, the appropriate manufacturing method can be selected according to specific needs and conditions.
No matter which method is used, the reaction conditions need to be strictly controlled to ensure product quality and production safety. At the same time, waste gas and waste water generated in the production process also need to be effectively treated and recycled to reduce the impact on the environment.
In short, the manufacturing method of CPE needs to be selected according to specific needs and conditions, and the reaction conditions and waste treatment need to be strictly controlled to ensure product quality and production safety, while also protecting the environment.
