Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide, NaOH) is an important inorganic chemical raw material, which is widely used in papermaking, printing and dyeing, oil refining, soap, food, metallurgy and other fields. The following are several main manufacturing methods of caustic soda:
1. Diaphragm method Diaphragm method
method Diaphragm method Electrolysis method Caustic soda production uses salt as the main raw material, brine is refined, salted and formulated into qualified saturated brine, through diaphragm electrolyzer electrolysis, dilute sodium hydroxide solution is precipitated at the cathode, chlorine gas is precipitated at the anode, and hydrogen is released respectively. The resulting dilute caustic soda solution is evaporated and concentrated into liquid caustic soda (30%, 32%, 42%, 45% and 50% specifications) or further concentrated into solid caustic soda.
2. Ionic membrane
The main production process of ionic membrane electrolytic alkali is: raw salt → primary refining → secondary refining → water distribution to make saturated brine → primary filtration → secondary filtration → ionic membrane electrolysis → light brine dechlorination → evaporation → solid alkali.
ion exchange membrane alkali making technology has the advantages of small equipment area, low energy consumption, simple operation and management, and low environmental pollution. It is the most advanced alkali making technology in the world. Compared with the diaphragm method, the ionic membrane method has the advantages of low investment, low energy consumption and low cost.
3. Water electrolysis
water electrolysis refers to the method of producing sodium hydroxide and hydrogen by electrolysis of water. The process electrolyzes water into hydrogen and oxygen, and then separates sodium hydroxide and chlorine through an ion exchange membrane. This method has the advantages of simple process and convenient operation, but the power consumption is large and the cost is high.
In short, the manufacturing methods of caustic soda are mainly diaphragm method, ion membrane method and water hydrolysis method. Different methods have different advantages and disadvantages, and the appropriate manufacturing method should be selected according to the specific situation. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to safety, environmental protection and quality control issues in the manufacturing process to ensure product quality and production safety.
