Part III: Preparation Method of Isopropyl Ether
There are many preparation methods of isopropyl ether, two of which are more common are described below.
method 1:
1. isopropyl alcohol and copper oxide catalyst heating reaction, acetone.
2. Acetone is vaporized and sodium chloride is added to the reactor to continue the reaction to form acetone hydrochloride.
3. Acetone hydrochloride is added to the reactor and reacted with ethanol to produce isopropyl ether.
4. Refined isopropyl ether to make it up to pharmaceutical grade.
method two:
1. isopropyl alcohol and sodium hydroxide solution reaction, generate sodium propoxide.
2. Chloroform is added to sodium propoxide to give 2-acetonyl-1-chloroalkane by distillation.
3. Reaction of 2-acetonyl-1-chloroalkane with sodium hydroxide solution to give isopropyl ether.
4. Refined isopropyl ether to make it up to pharmaceutical grade.
