direct polycondensation method is a method in which terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol are mixed and heated to a high temperature, and a specific amount of a catalyst is added to the mixture to produce polyethylene terephthalate. PET prepared by direct polycondensation has high molecular weight, high crystallinity and excellent performance.

indirect polycondensation method is that ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid are first esterified to produce ethylene terephthalate, and then polycondensed to produce polyethylene terephthalate. The molecular weight of PET prepared by indirect polycondensation method is smaller, the crystallinity is low, and the performance is slightly inferior to that of direct polycondensation method.
