On April 11, it was learned from the Sinopec Information Office that the world's largest monomer production capacity PTA (purified terephthalic acid) the project was officially put into operation in Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber. The project has a production capacity of 3 million tons/year, which is an important step for Sinopec to promote the transformation and upgrading of the aromatics industry chain and accelerate the expansion of high-end new materials. It will effectively drive and develop the downstream 100 billion-level new material industry.

PTA is a kind of petroleum derivative, which can be used as raw material to produce polyester chemical fiber, and plays a "connecting role" in the aromatic hydrocarbon-polyester industry chain. In the 1970 s and 1980 s, "dacron" (polyester fiber) promoted the "clothing revolution" of the Chinese people ". Nowadays, polyester fiber has evolved from the substitute of cotton in the past to a new material of "metaplasia". It is increasingly widely used in aerospace, intelligent induction, photovoltaic power generation, new energy vehicles, communication optical cables and other fields, and it is increasingly close to people's lives.

PTA plant is recognized as one of the most complex chemical plants in the industry, the new 3 million tons/year PTA plant, is the world's largest single PTA plant. In addition, the project adopts industry-leading short-process, intelligent production technology, equipment localization rate of up to 97.5. At the same time, the project adopts green production process, energy consumption and material consumption, tons of products "three wastes" emission indicators are industry-leading.

The project is listed as a key project of Sinopec and a major project of Jiangsu Province, with an investment scale of more than 5 billion yuan. As a major chemical province, Jiangsu Province in recent years to promote the industry to achieve strong chain chain extension chain. The commissioning of the project will help to integrate and optimize the regional resources of refining and chemical enterprises in Jiangsu Province, promote the coordinated development of the PTA industry chain, enhance the overall competition level and resilience of the industry chain, and effectively drive and develop the local economy and industry, and realize the integrated development of enterprises.

It is reported that the production of PTA in China began in 1982. Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical introduced PTA production technology from abroad and built 36000 tons/year production equipment. Since then, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical, Yangzi Petrochemical and other companies have also introduced PTA production technology and built PTA production units one after another. At the beginning of this century, my country's PTA output was only more than 200 million tons, and the consumption was less than 5 million tons. After years of development, my country's PTA production capacity ranks first in the world, becoming the world's largest PTA producer and consumer.
