Similarly, Kingfa Sci. And Tech announced in the annual report not long ago that the company would build a biobased BDO project with an annual output of 10,000 tons, which is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of December 2023. This move may indicate that blonde hair will enter biobased BDO to prepare for the development and maintenance of PBAT foreign markets.

What is biobased BDO

Bio-based BDO, as an important raw material, is widely used in many fields such as Spandex, degradable plastics, polyurethane, shoe materials, new energy batteries, etc. In recent years, with the rapid development of domestic downstream related industries, the demand for this product in domestic and foreign markets is growing rapidly. Under the strategic background of carbon neutralization and carbon peak, the development of bio-based materials industry will be an inevitable trend. Compared with traditional petroleum-based products, bio-based BDO has green environmental protection, renewable raw materials, advantages such as energy conservation and emission reduction will not cause damage to the environment, and it is a green product that meets the development requirements of carbon emission reduction.

Existing biobased BDO capacity

it is understood that, currently, biobased BDO has only 60,000 tons of capacity per year in the world., most of them are abroad, Italy Novamont, Germany BASF each 30,000 tons/year. The biobased BDO of Novamont and BASF adopts direct fermentation, which is generated in one step. The technical source is Genomatica in the United States. The biobased BDO is used for its own use as biobased PBAT and is not sold externally. Therefore, biobased BDO is in short supply.

Bio-based BDO capacity under construction

due to the high technical barriers, there are very few bio-based BDO manufacturers worldwide., mainly including Italian Novamont company, American Genomatica company, DSM, BASF, Mitsubishi Chemical, etc.

Disclosed biobased BDO capacity under construction includes:

In June 2021, the United States established Qore in Cargill with Helm, Germany, and established the first commercial-scale bio-based 1,4-butanediol (BDO) device in the United States, with an estimated total investment of 0.3 billion US dollars, it will produce 65,000 tons/year bio-based BDO, which is planned to be put into operation in 2024.

Biobased BDO does not appear for the first time in our country. Landian is under construction at 20,000 tons per year, but Landian can be built based on its advantage of biobased succinic acid raw materials.

In recent years, thanks to the economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region, the demand for bio-based BDO in the region has been continuously released. In 2020, the Asia-Pacific region has become the world's largest bio-based BDO market, accounting for more than 53.6%.
