Tertiary butyl peroxybenzoate (Tert-Butyl Peroxybenzoate,TBPB) is an organic peroxide with the formula C11H14O3. It usually exists as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a characteristic odor. It has a low melting point and is usually liquid at room temperature. TBPB has a low decomposition temperature and begins to decompose above 100°C to generate free radicals, so it needs careful handling and storage. Its decomposition products include benzoic acid and tert-butyl alcohol, which are not inherently hazardous, but the decomposition of peroxides at high temperatures or under open flame conditions may pose an explosion risk.
