Triphenyl phosphate properties

Triphenyl phosphate (Triphenyl Phosphate, abbreviated as TPP) is an organic phosphate ester with the chemical formula C18H15O4P. It appeared as a colorless to light yellow crystalline solid at room temperature. TPP has a high decomposition temperature, generally above 180 ℃, and has excellent oxidation resistance. Due to the phosphate bond in its structure, TPP exhibits good thermal stability and UV resistance. TPP is almost insoluble in water, but can be dissolved in most organic solvents, such as alcohols, ketones, benzene and so on.

Triphenyl phosphate use

TPP has a wide range of applications, mainly for the following aspects:

  1. Flame retardant :TPP is an efficient organic phosphate flame retardant, widely used in plastics, rubber, fiber and other materials, especially in PVC, polyurethane, polyester and phenolic resin and other polymer materials. By introducing TPP, the flame retardant performance of the material can be significantly improved and the fire risk can be reduced.

  2. Plasticizer: Due to its good compatibility and stability, TPP is used as a plasticizer, mainly used in vinyl resin, cellulose resin and synthetic rubber, which can improve the flexibility and processing performance of materials.

Triphenyl phosphate upstream and downstream raw materials
