Diphenyl isooctyl phosphite (Dioctyl Phenyl Phosphite, DOPP) is an organic phosphate ester compound, its molecular formula is C24H33O3P. Its chemical properties are relatively stable, not volatile, with good antioxidant and UV resistance. DOPP is a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid at room temperature, with low volatility and good solubility. The phenyl group and isooctyl group in its molecular structure give it excellent thermal stability and compatibility, so that it can maintain chemical stability under high temperature environment.
DOPP is widely used in a variety of industrial fields, mainly as a stabilizer, antioxidant and plasticizer. In the plastics industry, it is used as a heat stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which can effectively extend the service life of plastic products and improve their physical properties. In the rubber industry, DOPP is used as an antioxidant to prevent rubber from aging due to oxidation during processing and use. It is also used as an additive in coatings and paints to enhance the weather resistance and UV resistance of coatings. In lubricating oil and fuel additives, DOPP also plays a role in oxidation resistance and lubrication performance.
The production of DOPP involves a variety of upstream feedstocks, mainly including phenol, isooctanol and phosphorous acid. Phenol is an important organic chemical raw material, usually by the oxidation of benzene or cumene. Isooctanol is synthesized from octene or butene by addition reaction. Phosphorous acid can be obtained by hydrolysis of disodium hydrogen phosphite or triethyl phosphite. These raw materials after a series of chemical reactions, through the esterification reaction to generate DOPP. Auxiliary materials such as catalysts and solvents are also needed in the production process to improve reaction efficiency and product purity.
As an important chemical intermediate, DOPP's downstream products cover a wide range of applications. The most important downstream products are all kinds of plastic products, especially PVC products, such as pipes, films, cables, floors and toys. DOPP is also used to produce high-performance rubber products, such as tires, sealing rings and conveyor belts. In the coatings and paint industry, DOPP is widely used in the production of weather-resistant, anti-aging coating products, such as architectural coatings, automotive coatings and anti-corrosion coatings. In the lubricant industry, DOPP is used as a high-performance lubricant additive to enhance the antioxidant and anti-wear properties of lubricants.
DOPP should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight and high temperature environment. Since DOPP is a flammable liquid, fire prevention measures should be set in the warehouse, away from fire and heat sources. Storage containers should be plastic or glass bottles with good sealing performance to prevent volatilization and contamination. During transportation, severe vibration and impact should be avoided to prevent container damage and leakage. The area where DOPP is stored and used shall be equipped with necessary emergency equipment and fire fighting equipment to deal with possible accidents.
When using and handling DOPP, attention should be paid to its potential harm to the environment and human body. Although DOPP is less toxic, long-term exposure may cause irritation of the skin and eyes. Operators should wear appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles, to prevent direct contact. In terms of waste treatment, DOPP and its waste liquid should be treated in accordance with national and local environmental protection regulations, and should not be discharged at will to avoid environmental pollution. Enterprises should establish a sound safety management system, regular safety training for employees to ensure that they master the correct operating procedures and emergency treatment methods.
With the continuous development of industry and technology, the market demand for DOPP continues to grow. Especially in the plastics and rubber industry, DOPP, as a highly efficient stabilizer, has broad application prospects. With the increasingly stringent global environmental regulations, enterprises are constantly seeking more environmentally friendly and efficient additive products. DOPP has gradually become a hot product in the market with its excellent performance. With the continuous emergence of new materials and new processes, the application fields of DOPP are also expanding, adding more possibilities to its market prospects.
Diphenyl isooctyl phosphite (DOPP), as an important organic phosphate ester, has excellent physical and chemical properties and a wide range of industrial applications. Through the analysis of its nature, use, upstream and downstream raw materials, storage methods and market prospects, we can see the important position of DOPP in modern industry. In the future, with the advancement of technology and changes in market demand, DOPP is expected to play a greater role in more fields and contribute more to industrial development.
