[Chemical Knowledge]:The difference between phthalic anhydride: What is the difference between adjacent and Nai?

Phthalic anhydride is an important organic chemical, widely used in pesticides, dyes, pharmaceuticals and other fields. In the production process of phthalic anhydride, two methods are often used. So, what is the difference between these two methods?

first let's look at the adjacent method. The ortho method is a method in which benzoic acid is obtained by the reaction of benzene oxide and carbon dioxide, and then phthalic anhydride is obtained by oxidation. The advantages of this method are mild reaction conditions and simple operation, but there may be a small amount of o-phenol impurities in the product, which need further purification. The Nai method is a method in which sodium benzoate is obtained by the reaction of benzoyl chloride and sodium hydroxide, and then phthalic anhydride is obtained by heating. The advantage of the Nai method is that the product has high purity, but the reaction conditions are harsh and have a greater impact on the environment.

From the point of view of the reaction principle, the ortho method is to obtain benzoic acid through the alkaline substitution reaction of phenoxy compounds, and then to obtain phthalic anhydride through oxidation; while the Nai method is to obtain benzoic acid through the alkaline reaction of the hydrogenated alcohol of benzoyl chloride, and then to obtain phthalic anhydride through heating. The reaction conditions and product purity of the two methods are different, and the raw materials used are also different.

in the actual production, the choice of adjacent method or Nai method, need to consider the cost of raw materials, the complexity of the production process, product purity requirements and the impact on the environment and other factors. With the continuous development of chemical technology, people are constantly exploring more efficient and environmentally friendly production methods to better meet market demand.

In general, the adjacent method and the Nai method are the production methods of phthalic anhydride, and have their own advantages and limitations in practical applications. Understanding their differences will help us to choose more appropriate methods in actual production, improve production efficiency, reduce production costs, and promote the sustainable development of the chemical industry.
