[Chemical Knowledge]:Production and manufacturing method and process flow of butanediol

Butylene Glycol (BG) is an important organic chemical raw material, which is widely used in cosmetics, medicine, food, plastics, textiles and other fields. In the field of raw materials for chemical production, the manufacturing methods of butanediol are mainly as follows:

1. Acetic acid method
Acetic acid method uses acetic acid as raw material to generate butanediol through hydrogenation reaction. The specific steps are as follows: mixing acetic acid with hydrogen, and performing a hydrogenation reaction under heating and pressure to generate a mixture of butanediol and water. The pure butanediol product is then separated by distillation. This method has the advantages of easy access to raw materials and mild reaction conditions, but the production cost is high.

2. Ethylene
Ethylene method is ethylene as raw material, through oxidation, hydrolysis, hydrogenation and other reactions to produce butanediol. The specific steps are as follows: First, ethylene and oxygen are oxidized under the action of a catalyst to generate ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide is then hydrolyzed with water under acidic conditions to form ethylene glycol. Finally, ethylene glycol is hydrogenated to butanediol in the presence of a catalyst. This method has the advantages of abundant raw materials, high yield and low cost, and is one of the commonly used methods in industrial production.

3. 1,4-Butanediol Method
The 1,4-butanediol method uses 1,4-butanediol as a raw material to produce butanediol by dehydrogenation reaction. The specific steps are as follows: 1,4-butanediol is heated to a certain temperature, oxygen is introduced for dehydrogenation reaction, and butanediol and water are generated. This method has the advantages of single raw material and simple reaction conditions, but the yield is low and the production cost is high.

4. Biological
The biological method is a method of producing butanediol by microbial fermentation. The specific steps are as follows: mixing a carbon source material such as glucose with an appropriate amount of nutrients such as a nitrogen source and a phosphorus source, inoculating a butanediol-producing bacterium, and fermenting at a suitable temperature, pH and other conditions to generate butanediol. This method has the advantages of environmental protection and sustainability, but it is still in the research stage and has not yet realized industrial production.

In short, there are many manufacturing methods of butanediol, and different methods have different advantages and disadvantages and scope of application. In actual production, the appropriate manufacturing method should be selected according to the specific production conditions and needs to improve production efficiency and economic benefits.
