1. Pretreatment

First, the raw materials need to be pretreated. The raw materials for the production of HIPS mainly include styrene monomer and rubber modifier. In order to ensure the smooth progress of production, these raw materials need to be purified, dried and other pretreatment operations.

2. Polymerization

Next, the treated styrene monomer and the rubber modifier are fed into the polymerization reactor at a certain ratio. Under the action of the initiator, the styrene monomer starts to undergo a free radical polymerization reaction to form polystyrene. At the same time, the rubber modifier will also be dispersed in the polystyrene matrix during the polymerization reaction, forming a sea-island structure blend.

3. Devolatilization

After the polymerization reaction is completed, devolatilization treatment is required to remove unreacted monomers and low molecular volatiles to obtain high-quality HIPS products.
