BHT(Butylated Hydroxytoluene) is a commonly used antioxidant, widely used in food, chemical, pharmaceutical and other fields. In the field of chemical production raw materials, the manufacturing methods of BHT are mainly as follows:
1. Acylation method
Acylation method is a commonly used BHT manufacturing method, mainly using phenol and ethyl formate as raw materials, through the acylation reaction of BHT. The specific manufacturing process is as follows:
(1) Phenol and a catalyst are added into a reaction kettle, and after heating to a certain temperature, ethyl formate is added to perform an acylation reaction.
(2) After the reaction is completed, it is cooled to room temperature to precipitate a solid product, which is filtered, washed and dried to obtain a finished product of BHT.
acylation method has the advantages of easy availability of raw materials, simple operation and high yield, so it has been widely used in industrial production.
2. Alkylation
Alkylation is also a commonly used BHT manufacturing method, mainly using phenol and isopropanol as raw materials to produce BHT through alkylation reaction. The specific manufacturing process is as follows:
(1) The phenol and the catalyst are added into a reaction kettle, and after heating to a certain temperature, isopropanol is added to carry out an alkylation reaction.
(2) After the reaction is completed, it is cooled to room temperature to precipitate a solid product, which is filtered, washed and dried to obtain a finished product of BHT. The advantage of
alkylation method is that it can avoid the use of toxic and harmful raw materials such as ethyl formate, and can also improve the purity and yield of BHT.
3. Oxidation method
oxidation method is a relatively new BHT manufacturing method, mainly using phenol and hydrogen as raw materials, through the oxidation reaction of BHT. The specific manufacturing process is as follows:
(1) phenol and a catalyst are added into a reaction kettle, hydrogen is introduced, and after heating to a certain temperature, an oxidizing agent is added to carry out an oxidation reaction.
(2) After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and distilled to obtain a BHT product. The advantage of
oxidation method is that it can avoid the use of toxic and harmful raw materials, and can also improve the purity and yield of BHT. However, the operating conditions of the oxidation method are relatively harsh and require higher temperatures and pressures, so it is rarely used in actual production. No matter which manufacturing method is used for
, it is necessary to strictly control the reaction conditions and the quality of raw materials to ensure the quality and yield of the product. At the same time, safety management and environmental protection measures need to be strengthened in the production process to ensure the safety and sustainability of the production process.
In short, there are many manufacturing methods for BHT, and different methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, and need to be selected according to the actual situation. In the future development, with the continuous improvement of environmental awareness and technological progress, it is believed that more environmentally friendly, efficient and economical manufacturing methods will emerge.
