[Chemical Knowledge]:Manufacturing method and process of polysorbate

Polysorbate is a widely used non-ionic surfactant, mainly used in the field of chemical production raw materials. It has excellent emulsification, dispersion, wetting and penetration properties, so it is widely used in medicine, food, cosmetics and other industries. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of polysorbate in detail.

1. manufacturing principle

polysorbate manufacturing principle is mainly through the esterification reaction and polymerization reaction to achieve. Esterification reaction refers to the esterification reaction of sorbitol and fatty acid to form sorbate under the action of acidic catalyst. Polymerization reaction is under the action of alkaline catalyst, multiple sorbate molecules polymerization reaction to generate polysorbate.

2. Manufacturing Steps

1. Preparation of Raw Materials
The main raw materials for the production of polysorbate are sorbitol, fatty acids, catalysts and solvents. Wherein, the molar ratio of sorbitol to fatty acid is generally between 1:1 and 1:2, the amount of catalyst is generally 0.5-2% of the mass of sorbitol, and the amount of solvent is determined according to specific conditions.
2. Esterification reaction
Sorbitol, fatty acid and catalyst are added into a reaction kettle, heated and stirred, the reaction temperature is controlled between 100-150 ℃, and the reaction time is 2-4 hours. The reaction product is a mixture of sorbate and water.
3. Neutralization Reaction
The reaction product was cooled to room temperature, and an alkaline absorbent was added for neutralization reaction to generate crude polysorbate. Commonly used alkaline absorbent with sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and so on.
4. Washing and Dehydration
The crude polysorbate product is washed with a solvent to remove impurities therein, and then subjected to dehydration treatment to obtain a finished polysorbate product.
Precautions for
3.

1. Control the reaction temperature and time to avoid excessive esterification and polymerization, which will affect product quality.
2. The pH value should be controlled during the neutralization reaction to avoid excessive alkalinity leading to product decomposition.
3. During the washing and dehydration process, pay attention to controlling the ratio and temperature of the solvent to avoid product loss and quality degradation.

4. Application

Polysorbate as an excellent nonionic surfactant is widely used in medicine, food, cosmetics and other industries. In the pharmaceutical industry, polysorbate can be used as an emulsifier, dispersant, wetting agent, etc., for the production of oral or topical drugs. In the food industry, polysorbate can be used as an emulsifier, stabilizer, etc., for making beverages, dairy products, etc. In the cosmetics industry, polysorbate can be used as an emulsifier, penetrant, etc., for the production of skin care products, cosmetics, etc.

In short, the manufacturing method of polysorbate involves chemical reactions such as esterification reaction and polymerization reaction, and it is necessary to strictly control the reaction conditions and product quality. At the same time, as an important non-ionic surfactant, polysorbate has a wide range of applications in medicine, food, cosmetics and other fields.
