Manufacturing method
of ethyl ether
ethyl ether is a common organic compound with excellent solubility and anesthetic effect, so it is widely used as a raw material for chemical production and pharmaceutical intermediates. 1. sulfuric acid method

1. add ethanol into sulfuric acid, mix evenly, and heat to 60-70 ℃ to dehydrate ethanol to produce ether.
2. Ether is distilled off and, after cooling with cold water, sulfuric acid and ethanol are added and distillation with heating is continued until all ethanol is converted to ether.
3. The ether obtained by distillation is washed with water, neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution to neutrality, and finally distilled to obtain pure ether. The
sulfuric acid method has the advantages of simple process and low cost, but the disadvantage is that it will produce a large amount of waste acid and wastewater, which will cause pollution to the environment.
2. hydrogen peroxide method
hydrogen peroxide method is a relatively new ether manufacturing method, the main raw materials are ethanol and hydrogen peroxide. The following are the specific steps of the hydrogen peroxide method to manufacture ether:
1. Mixing ethanol and hydrogen peroxide in a certain proportion, adding catalyst, stirring reaction.
2. After completion of the reaction, unreacted ethanol and water were distilled off to obtain crude diethyl ether.
3. The crude ether is washed with alkali to remove acidic impurities, then washed with water until neutral, and finally distilled to obtain pure ether. The advantages of the
hydrogen peroxide method are that less waste water is produced, it is environmentally friendly, and the product quality is higher. But the disadvantage is that the price of hydrogen peroxide is higher and the cost is relatively high.
No matter which method is used to manufacture ether, it is necessary to strictly abide by the safety operation procedures to ensure the safety and stability of the production process.
