Hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) is an important chemical raw material, widely used in coatings, inks, adhesives, plastics and other fields. A conventional method for producing hydroxyethyl acrylate will be described below.
1. raw material preparation
1. Acrylic acid: industrial grade acrylic acid with a mass fraction of 99%.
2. Ethanol: industrial grade ethanol, mass fraction 95%.
3. Catalyst: sulfuric acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid.
2. equipment to prepare
1 reaction kettle: with stirring, heating, cooling function.
2. Condenser: used to recover water generated in the reaction.
3. Water separator: used to separate water and organic phase.
4. vacuum pump: used for vacuum, promote the reaction.
3. Manufacturing Steps
1. Acrylic acid and ethanol are added into a reaction kettle according to a certain molar ratio, and the molar ratio of acrylic acid to ethanol is generally 1:1.1-1.5.
2. Add catalyst, the general amount of catalyst is 0.5 ~ 1% of the mass of acrylic acid.
3. Open the stirring and heat the reaction kettle to a certain temperature, generally at 60~80.
4. The water generated during the reaction is recovered by a condenser, and the organic phase is refluxed to the reaction kettle after water is separated by a water separator.
5. After a certain time of reaction, the content of hydroxyethyl acrylate is sampled and detected, and when the content reaches a predetermined value, the reaction is stopped.
6. Cool the reaction vessel to room temperature, pour the reaction solution into a separatory funnel, and wash with water until neutral.
7. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and filtered to obtain crude hydroxyethyl acrylate.
4. Post-Treatment
1. Distillation: The crude hydroxyethyl acrylate was distilled, and the product was collected in the specified fraction to obtain pure hydroxyethyl acrylate.
2. Detection: The quality of the distilled hydroxyethyl acrylate was detected, including purity, chroma, acid value and other indicators.
5. precautions
1. Strictly control the reaction temperature and time to avoid the occurrence of side reactions.
2. The amount of catalyst should be appropriate, too much will lead to equipment corrosion, too little may affect the reaction rate.
3. Pay attention to safety during operation and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
The above is a common manufacturing method of hydroxyethyl acrylate, and the specific operation should be adjusted and optimized according to the actual production situation.
