The manufacturing method
of fumed silica
fumed silica is an important raw material for chemical production, which is widely used in rubber, plastics, coatings, ceramics, medicine and other fields. Fumed silica has a high degree of dispersion, adsorption and chemical stability, can improve the performance and quality of the product. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of fumed silica.
1. gas phase method
gas phase method is the main method of producing gas phase silica, the principle is to introduce silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4) and oxygen (O2) into the reaction furnace at high temperature, after high temperature combustion reaction, silicon dioxide (SiO2) and hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas. Then, the silica is condensed into ultrafine particles by quenching, and after dust removal, deacidification and other treatments, the fumed silica product is obtained. The production process of
gas phase method is as follows:
1. After mixing silicon tetrachloride and oxygen in a certain proportion, it is introduced into the high temperature reaction furnace.
2. In the reaction furnace, the mixture undergoes a combustion reaction to form silica and hydrogen chloride gas.
3. The high-temperature gas is rapidly cooled by a quenching device to condense silica into ultrafine particles.
4. After dust removal, deacidification and other treatments, the fumed silica product was obtained. The advantages of
gas phase method are continuous production, high product purity and narrow particle size distribution. However, this method has high energy consumption and large equipment investment.
2. precipitation method
precipitation method is another method for the production of fumed silica. Its principle is to react silicate solution with acid under acidic conditions to generate silica precipitate. Then, through washing, drying, calcination and other processes, the fumed silica product is obtained. The production process of
precipitation method is as follows:
1. silicate solution and acid are mixed according to a certain proportion, and the reaction generates silica precipitate.
2. Impurity ions and excess acid are removed by filtration, washing and the like.
3. The precipitate is dried and calcined to obtain fumed silica product. The advantages of
precipitation method are low equipment investment and relatively simple production process. However, the product purity of this method is low and the particle size distribution is wide.
3. Sol-gel method
Sol-gel method is another method for the production of fumed silica, the principle is to hydrolyze the silicate solution under acidic conditions to form a sol, and then after aging, drying, calcination and other processes to obtain fumed silica products. The production process of
sol-gel method is as follows:
1. silicate solution is mixed with acid, hydrolyzed and condensed to form sol.
2. After aging, the particles in the sol are fully grown to form a gel.
3. The gel is dried and calcined to obtain fumed silica product. The advantages of
sol-gel method are high product purity and narrow particle size distribution. However, this method has a long production cycle and low production efficiency.
To sum up, the manufacturing methods of gas phase silica include gas phase method, precipitation method and sol-gel method. Different methods have different advantages and disadvantages and production processes. Enterprises can choose the appropriate method according to their own production conditions and needs. No matter which method is used, it is necessary to strictly control the production process parameters to ensure product quality and production safety.
