PBS (poly (butylene succinate)) is a biodegradable polyester material, because of its environmental performance and biocompatibility, is widely used in the field of chemical production raw materials. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of PBS.

1. Raw Material Preparation
Main raw materials required for the manufacture of
PBS include succinic acid and butanediol. Among them, succinic acid can be produced by microbial fermentation, and butanediol can be produced by the oxidation of petrochemical raw materials ethylene and propylene. In the process of raw material preparation, it is necessary to ensure the purity and quality of raw materials to avoid adverse effects on the subsequent polymerization reaction.

2. Polymerization
The manufacture of
PBS uses a polymerization reaction, which is generally divided into two steps: pre-polymerization and final polymerization.

1. Pre-polymerization

In the pre-polymerization reaction, succinic acid and butanediol are subjected to esterification reaction and polycondensation reaction under the action of a catalyst to generate a low molecular weight prepolymer. Commonly used catalysts include tetrabutyl titanate, zinc acetate, etc. The prepolymerization reaction is generally carried out under vacuum conditions to improve the reaction efficiency and product quality.

2. Final Polymerization

In the final polymerization reaction, the prepolymer is further polycondensed into high molecular weight PBS. The final polymerization reaction generally employs a melt polycondensation method in which a prepolymer is further polycondensed at a high temperature and a high degree of vacuum while discharging water as a by-product and unreacted raw materials. The final polymerization reaction needs to control the reaction temperature and vacuum degree to ensure the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the product.

3. product post-processing
After the
PBS is manufactured, product post-processing, including pelletizing, drying, packaging and other processes, is required. Among them, the cutting is to cut the PBS polymer into particles of a certain length to facilitate subsequent processing and use; drying is to remove water and other impurities in the product; packaging is to protect product quality and facilitate transportation.
