Williamson synthesis is a chemical reaction that produces ethers by reacting alcohols with halogenated hydrocarbons under anhydrous conditions, and is an important method for the preparation of mixed ethers. In this method, an alcohol and a halogenated hydrocarbon undergo a nucleophilic substitution reaction in the presence of a basic catalyst to form an ether and a sodium halide. Williamson synthesis method is suitable for the reaction of various alcohols and halogenated hydrocarbons, and can prepare a variety of ether compounds.
