[Chemical Knowledge]:Properties and Uses of Methacrylonitrile

The nature and use
of methacrylonitrile
methacrylonitrile (Methacrylonitrile, referred to as MAN) is an important organic chemical raw materials, molecular formula C4H5N. It is colorless and transparent, has a pungent smell, flammable and toxic. Methacrylonitrile is chemically active and prone to polymerization, so it has a wide range of applications in the field of chemical production raw materials.

1. the properties of methacrylonitrile

1. physical properties: methacrylonitrile is a colorless transparent liquid, pungent odor. It has a boiling point of 101.2°C, a melting point of -83.8°C and a density of 0.866g/cm3. Methacrylonitrile is poorly soluble in water, but easily soluble in organic solvents.
2. Chemical properties: The chemical properties of methacrylonitrile are lively and prone to polymerization. Under the action of initiator, free radical polymerization of methacrylonitrile can produce polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). In addition, methacrylonitrile can be copolymerized with other monomers to form different copolymers.

2. the use of methacrylonitrile

1. Production of polymers: Methacrylonitrile is an important raw material for the production of polymers, mainly used to produce polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). PMMA has excellent transparency, weather resistance, UV resistance, electrical insulation and processing performance, widely used in the production of transparent plates, optical lenses, decorative materials, lamps and so on.
2. Production of synthetic rubber: Methacrylonitrile can be copolymerized with other monomers to produce synthetic rubber, such as nitrile rubber (NBR). Nitrile rubber has excellent oil resistance, wear resistance and aging resistance, and is widely used in the production of seals, hoses, tires, etc.
3. Production of fibers: methacrylonitrile can be copolymerized with other monomers to produce acrylic fibers. Acrylic fiber has excellent elasticity, warmth retention and abrasion resistance, and is widely used in the production of sweaters, coats, carpets, etc.
4. production of surfactants: methacrylonitrile can react with other raw materials to generate surfactants, such as methacryloyloxyethyl dimethyl octadecyl ammonium chloride. These surfactants have excellent wetting, emulsifying and dispersing properties, and are widely used in washing, textile, paper and other industries.

In short, methacrylonitrile, as an important organic chemical raw material, has a wide range of applications in the field of chemical production raw materials.
