[Chemical Knowledge]:What are the upstream raw materials for methallyl alcohol? What do the downstream products contain?

Methyl allyl alcohol (Methallyl alcohol, MAL) is an important organic chemical raw material, which is widely used in fine chemicals, polymer materials, medicine and other fields. In the field of raw materials for chemical production, there are many upstream and downstream related products of methallyl alcohol, some of which are described in detail below.

1. Upstream Product

(1) Propylene: The main raw material of methyl allyl alcohol is propylene. Acrolein is obtained through the oxidation reaction of propylene, and then methyl allyl alcohol is obtained through reduction reaction.

(2) Syngas: Syngas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) can also be used to produce methyl allyl alcohol by reacting syngas with formaldehyde to produce methyl alcohol, which is then subjected to dehydration reaction to obtain methyl allyl alcohol.

2. Downstream product

(1) Methyl methacrylate (MMA): Methyl allyl alcohol can react with methanol and formaldehyde to generate methyl methacrylate, which is an important polymer monomer used in the production Organic glass, coatings, adhesives, etc.

(2) Ethyl methacrylate (EMA): Methyl allyl alcohol reacts with ethanol to produce ethyl methacrylate, which is also an important polymer monomer used in the production of polymer emulsions, adhesives, coatings, etc.

(3) Methacrylic acid ester copolymer: Methyl allyl alcohol can be copolymerized with other allyl monomers to produce methacrylic acid ester copolymer, which is used to produce water-based coatings, inks, adhesives and the like.

(4) Methyl allyl chloride (MACl): Methyl allyl alcohol reacts with chlorine to generate methyl allyl chloride, which is used in the production of pesticides, pharmaceutical intermediates, etc.

(5) Dimethacrylate (DMA): Methyl allyl alcohol reacts with acetic anhydride to form dimethacrylate, which is used to produce photocurable coatings, inks, etc.

To sum up, the upstream and downstream related products of methyl allyl alcohol in the field of chemical production raw materials are very extensive, involving polymer materials, fine chemicals, medicine and other fields.
