PX, or para-xylene, is an important chemical raw material, mainly used in the production of PTA (purified terephthalic acid) and DMT (dimethyl terephthalate). These two compounds are further used to produce PET (polyethylene terephthalate), a polymer widely used in the manufacture of plastic bottles, fibers and films.

In the upstream industry, the production of PX mainly depends on oil and coal. These two kinds of resources through a certain chemical process, can produce paraxylene. Therefore, the price fluctuations of oil and coal have an important impact on the cost of PX.

In the downstream industry, PX's main related products are:

1. PTA: purified terephthalic acid. This is the most important downstream product of PX, mainly used in the production of PET. The production process of PTA requires the oxidation of PX, followed by crystallization, centrifugation, drying and other steps.
2. DMT: Dimethyl terephthalate. DMT is also an important chemical raw material, mainly used in the production of PET and other polymers. The production process involves the esterification of PX with methanol.
3. PET: Polyethylene terephthalate. PET is a widely used plastic, mainly used in the manufacture of packaging bottles, fibers and films. It is made from PTA and ethylene glycol by transesterification and polymerization.
