The third phase of the CNOOC Shell project is a joint venture between CNOOC and Shell Group, with a total investment of about 52.1 billion yuan, with a 1.6 million-ton/year ethylene cracking unit as the core, including 645000 tons/year ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol, 87.5/400000 tons/year styrene/propylene oxide, 450000 tons/year polyether polyol, 400000 tons/year α-olefin, 50000 tons/year poly α-olefin, 600000 tons/year metallocene polyethylene, 450000 tons/year copolymerized polypropylene and other 18 sets of chemical production units. The project uses Shell's proprietary alpha olefin technology, which is the first application of this technology in the Asia-Pacific region.

After the project is completed and put into operation, the total ethylene production capacity of CSPC will reach 3.8 million tons/year, and it can provide more than 1100 million tons of petrochemical products to the market every year to meet the domestic demand for petrochemical products, and promote the ecology of the petrochemical zone on the basis of increased production capacity. Sustainability, improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

It is reported that on the basis of the good cooperation between CNOOC and Shell in the first and second phases, CNOOC and Shell Group will once again jointly invest in the construction of the third phase of the project, which is not only in line with the strategic layout of the national petrochemical industry, but will also give full play to the respective advantages of CNOOC and Shell to meet the market demand for high-performance new chemical materials and high-end chemicals in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Hong Kong Bay Bay area. huizhou Phase I Ethylene Project

the first phase of CNOOC Shell was put into operation in 2006, including 11 units such as 1 million tons/year ethylene, 300000 tons of full density polyethylene, 150000 tons of low density polyethylene, 240000 tons of polypropylene, 290000 tons of propylene oxide, 85000 tons of polyol, 60000 tons of propylene glycol, 165000 tons of butadiene, 27/320000 tons of ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol, of which 290000 tons/year PO unit adopts PO/SM method.

Huizhou Phase II Ethylene Project

CNOOC Shell Phase II has been put into operation since April 2018, with a total investment of 22.8 billion, including 120 tons/year ethylene plant, 180000 tons/year butadiene plant, 150000 tons/year methyl tert-butyl ether/50000 tons/year butene-1 plant, 250000 tons/year olefin conversion plant, 350000 tons/year phenol acetone plant, 250000 tons/year butyl octanol plant, 400000 tons/year high density polyethylene plant, 300000 tons/year linear low density polyethylene plant, 400000 tons/year polypropylene plant, 15/480000 tons/year ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol units and other 11 sets of production units. Among them, 350000 tons/year phenol acetone plant and 250000 tons/year butyl octanol plant (including 106000 tons/year n-butanol and 120000 tons/year butanol) were put into operation in April 2018. The 300000 t/a PO plant will be put into operation in 2021, and since then CNOOC's PO production capacity has reached 590000 t/a.
