[Chemical Knowledge]:What does EVAP mean?

In chemistry and physics, evaporation refers to the process by which a liquid substance transforms into a gaseous substance. This process usually occurs on the liquid surface, because the molecules at the liquid surface are more "active" and more likely to jump out of the liquid to form a gas. This process requires a certain amount of energy, usually thermal energy, because it accelerates the motion of the molecules, causing them to jump out of the surface of the liquid.

EVAP(Evaporative Emissions Control System) is a short name, it is a car-specific evaporative gas control system. Its working principle is to use the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the fuel to evaporate when the engine is running, instead of directly releasing them into the atmosphere. These VOC harmful substances can cause air pollution, and the role of the EVAP system is to collect these VOCs and dispose of them in other ways to protect the environment. The

EVAP system usually consists of the following parts:

1. EVAP tank: A tank dedicated to storing evaporated gas is installed on the car. This tank is usually located next to the engine compartment, near the engine.

2. Valves: Valves on EVAP systems are usually of two types-open and closed. When these valves are closed, they prevent boil-off gas from entering the atmosphere. When they are open, these evaporated gases can be collected.

3. Sensors: The EVAP system requires sensors to detect tank pressure and ambient temperature. When the pressure in the tank exceeds the specified value, the system will signal the driver to perform maintenance.

4. Piping: Piping through the entire vehicle will guide the evaporated gas from the tank to a place where these harmful substances can be handled.

EVAP system generally has two working modes: leak detection mode and balance mode. The leak detection mode is used to detect whether raw boil-off gas is leaking from the system, while the balance mode is used to balance the pressure in the tank.

When the EVAP system fails, the vehicle can become difficult to start, accelerate slowly, or experience reduced fuel economy. Therefore, the maintenance of the EVAP system is very important, which can ensure the normal operation of the vehicle and reduce the damage to the environment.

EVAP is a special evaporative gas control system for automobiles, which can effectively reduce the pollution of automobiles to the atmospheric environment. For car owners, the maintenance of the EVAP system is very important. Only in this way can we ensure the normal operation of the vehicle and avoid unnecessary damage to the environment.
