[Industry Focus]:Shenghong Chemical: 5.6 billion to build POSM and polyol project successfully put into production.

Recently, the POSM (propylene oxide-styrene co-production) and polyol units of Shenghong Chemical New Materials Project have all been successfully put into production. The project includes 200000 tons/year propylene oxide co-production 450000 tons/year styrene plant (referred to as PO/SM plant), which is currently running smoothly and has produced qualified products. This move not only marks an important step taken by Shenghong Chemical in the vertically integrated industrial chain of refining and chemical industry, but also deeply taps the downstream industrial potential of benzene, C2, C3 and other products, and significantly enhances the comprehensive competitiveness of the industrial group. At the same time, the project will provide a more stable supply of raw materials for the domestic polyurethane industry, play a strong role in promoting the sound development of the polyurethane industry, and enrich the raw material layout for Shenghong Chemical to enter the field of high value-added products.

The project uses the most advanced and mature clean processing technology in the world today, aiming to minimize pollutant emissions. Relying on the raw materials of the refining and chemical integration project, such as benzene, hydrogen, ethylene and propylene, through the "propylene-propylene oxide-polyether polyol" industrial chain, it can produce 200000 tons of propylene oxide, 450000 tons of styrene, 115000 tons of polyether polyol and 25000 tons of polymer polyol each year. These products not only meet the market demand, but also show the technical strength of Shenghong Chemical in green chemical industry.


POSM device technology: the POSM device adopts the co-oxidation method of Spanish REPSOL (Repsol) company's propylene oxide co-production styrene technology, which is matched with the world's advanced environmental protection treatment device and has great advantages in solving the three wastes and environmental protection. At the same time, the ethyl benzene unit has introduced the industry-leading Lummus/UOP EBOne process to ensure high product yield, excellent quality and low energy consumption.
With the continuous extension of the industrial chain of Shenghong Petrochemical Plate, the advantages of industrial clustering are becoming more and more obvious. The nearby processing of raw materials and the intensive use of public facilities not only reduce the cost, but also further improve the economic benefits. This clustered development model will help Shenghong Chemical to maintain a leading position in the fierce market competition and lay a solid foundation for its future expansion in more high value-added products.

technical analysis of PO-SM co-production method: the co-production method of propylene oxide-styrene, also known as co-oxidation, is an efficient chemical production method. Ethylbenzene is oxidized under the action of oxygen to give ethylbenzene peroxide, which is then used to oxidize propylene to give 1-phenylethanol and propylene oxide. Finally, styrene can be obtained after dehydration of 1-phenylethanol.

The main feature of this technology is to produce 0.4 tons of propylene oxide per ton of styrene. Compared with the dehydrogenation method, it does not require high temperature conditions; compared with the chlorohydrin method, it avoids the pollution problems in the production of propylene oxide. However, the reaction process is complex, more by-products, long process, ethylbenzene consumption is higher than the dehydrogenation method. At present, the companies with PO/SM patented technology in the world mainly include Lyondell Basell, Respol, Shell, Changzhou Ruihua Chemical and Wanhua Chemical. The main difference between these patents is the selection and use of the epoxidation catalyst. For example, the LyondellBasell uses the molybdenum complex solution as the catalyst, which needs to be treated and recycled after the reaction, while the Shell uses the TiO2/SiO2 catalyst, which simplifies the separation process, but the reactor structure is more complex.
