On May 31, 2024, the National Development and Reform Commission of China issued the "Catalogue of Encouraged Industries in the Western Region (Revised Draft for Comment)", which aims to clarify the direction of industrial development in the western region, especially the chemical industry. The policy provides clear guidance and encouragement for the development of the chemical industry in the western provinces, involving large chemicals, new materials, fine chemicals, low-carbon energy products and other fields.
1. Chongqing to encourage the development of high-performance fibers and composites

7. Ningxia encourages the development of coal-based high-end chemicals, bio-based chemicals and coal-based new materials products

9. Inner Mongolia to encourage the development of chemical industry diversity

Although Inner Mongolia has rich coal resources, the pure coal chemical industry is no longer the key to long-term development. Inner Mongolia is seeking more development space and feasibility of the type of chemical industry, in order to achieve the diversified development of the chemical industry.
10. Guangxi Encourage the Development of Organic Chemical Industry Chain Extension

the development of the chemical industry in the western provinces is strongly supported by national policies, and each region has clarified different development priorities based on its own resources and industrial advantages. From the high-performance fiber in Chongqing to the natural gas chemical industry in Sichuan, from the integration of phosphorus and electricity in Guizhou to the utilization of coalbed methane in Yunnan, to the parallel development of large-scale chemical industry and new materials in Shaanxi, the chemical industry of each province has distinctive characteristics, showing the diversified and high-end development trend of the chemical industry in western China. With the further implementation of policies and the continuous upgrading of industries, the chemical industry in the western region is expected to become a new engine to promote regional economic development.
