Product Description

2-pyrrolidone is an active compound found in cabbage varieties and has anti-cancer properties. Free radical scavenging activity increased with the increase of 2-pyrrolidone dosage. The cytotoxicity of 2-pyrrolidone was found to be dose-and time-dependent, and its effect was observed by microscopy in all selected cancer cell lines. It was observed that the cytotoxic concentrations of 2-pyrrolidone to HeLa were 2.5 mg/mL, the cytotoxic concentrations to PC-3 cells were 3 mg/mL, the cytotoxic concentrations to HeLa and PC-3 cells were 1.5 mg/mL and 2 mg/mL, and the cytotoxic concentrations to PC-3 cells were 48 h, respectively. Cell viability decreased with increasing concentration of purified 2-pyrrolidone. After 24 hours of treatment with 2-pyrrolidone (IC50 concentrations of 1.5 mg/mL and 2 mg/mL, respectively, for HeLa and PC-3 cells), the morphological changes of the cells were observed. Studies have shown that 2-pyrrolidone induces apoptosis in HeLa and PC-3 cells through G0/G1 phase of cell cycle arrest [1].

Production method

It is usually obtained by ammoniation of γ-butyrolactone. Another preparation method uses maleic anhydride as raw material, which is obtained by hydrogenation and ammoniation, and the yield can reach 90-92.
