It is mainly used for making resin, plasticizer and surfactant; Neopentyl glycol is widely used as plasticizer for producing Unsaturated Polyester Resin, oil-free alkyd resin, polyurethane foam and elastomer, additives of advanced lubricating oil and other fine chemicals. Production method

1. Sodium Formate isobutyraldehyde is condensed with formaldehyde at 30-35 ℃, pH 9-11, and alkali catalyst to form hydroxytert-butyraldehyde, which is reduced to neopentyl glycol with excess formaldehyde under strong alkali conditions, and formaldehyde is oxidized, and react with alkali to generate sodium formate. The reaction solution is neutralized with formic acid, distilled and dehydrated under reduced pressure, and concentrated solution is extracted by layers. After sodium formate is removed, the product is cooled, crystallized and separated. 2. The hydrofination process is made up of isobutyraldehyde and formaldehyde through condensation to obtain hydroxynevaleraldehyde, and then through hydroreduction.
