Nature Description

Colorless acicular or rhombic crystals. Melting point 97-99 ℃, boiling point 283-285 ℃,148-150 ℃(1.07kPa), flash point 149 ℃. Soluble in water, ethanol and ether. After dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid, it is co-heated with dilute potassium chlorate solution to pale purple, and its aqueous solution is easy to turn brown in the air.

Product Applications

It is one of the organic synthetic source and can produce toluene diisocyanate. It is also used as dye intermediate and hair dyeing black.

Production method

Nitration of p-nitrotoluene with mixed acid to 2, 4-dinitrotoluene, then reduce with iron powder to obtain crude product, and then concentrate and distillation to obtain finished product. Raw material consumption quota: P-nitrotoluene 1600 kg/t, sulfuric acid (98)1616 kg/t, nitric acid (98)760 kg/t, iron powder (90)2700 kg/t.
