Nature Description

White scales or powder. Soluble in water (1:0.8,25℃) and glycerol (1:5), soluble in 95 ethanol (1:11), almost insoluble in ether; Chloroform and benzene. The aqueous solution is slightly acidic (pH5-6). It turns pink in the light exposed for a long time. Odorless or slightly special odor, sweet and uncomfortable.

Production method

Cross-add salicylate and sodium bicarbonate into distilled water, keep the temperature at 60℃, keep it in acidic state, and add appropriate amount of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and sodium hyposulfite at the same time. The temperature was raised to 85 °c and the reaction was conducted for half an hour. The qualified reaction liquid was filtered into boiling bed and dried at 85℃ to obtain salicylate.
