Nature Description

Colorless or light yellow liquid. Boiling point 170-171 ℃,68-69 ℃(1.33kPa), relative density 1.1285(20/4 ℃), refractive index 1.4868, flash point 65 ℃. It can be miscible with water but unstable in aqueous solution, and is easily soluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, chlorosulfate and benzene. When exposed to light or exposed to air, it turns brown red, and it is often easy to cause explosion when exposed to inorganic acid. It has a special bitter and spicy smell.

Production method

It is obtained from the hydroreduction of furfural. In industry, there are two processes: Liquid Phase Hydrogenation and gas phase hydrogenation. The liquid phase hydrogenation method is divided into high pressure method and medium pressure method. The high pressure method is mostly operated above 9.8MPa, the temperature is controlled between 170-200 ℃, chromium oxide and copper oxide are used as catalysts, and the molar ratio of furfural to hydrogen is 1:42. The conversion rate is between 95-100, the medium pressure method is mostly operated at about 6.73-6.86MPa, and the temperature is controlled at about 160-170. Chromium oxide and lead oxide are also used as catalysts, and the obtained product is rectified at 66.5-79.84kPa under reduced pressure to obtain Bran alcohol, the conversion rate is generally 80-90. The gas phase hydrogenation process is carried out at 0.1-0.39MPa, the temperature is controlled at about 80-170 ℃, and nickel or chromium-copper catalyst is used. The friction rate between furfural and hydrogen is high and the cost is low. The consumption quota of raw materials is 1120kg/t for furfural and 300 m3/t for hydrogen.
