of 2-hexanone
1. Introduction
2-hexanone is an important organic chemical raw material, widely used in medicine, pesticides, spices, dyes and other fields. This paper will introduce the method of preparing 2-hexanone by aldol condensation reaction with acetone as raw material.
2. experimental principle
aldol condensation reaction refers to the aldehyde or ketone in acid or alkali catalysis, with another molecule of aldehyde or ketone nucleophilic addition reaction to generate aldol, aldol further dehydration to generate aldehyde or ketone reaction. In this experiment, acetone in alkaline conditions with another molecule of acetone aldol condensation reaction to produce 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, and then through dehydration reaction to produce 2-hexanone.
3. Experimental Procedures
1.100mL of acetone, 10g of sodium hydroxide and 50mL of water were added to a three-necked flask, and heated to reflux with stirring.
2. Reflux After reacting for 2 hours, the pH was adjusted to neutral with hydrochloric acid, and acetone was recovered by distillation to give a brown oil.
3. The oil was washed several times with ether, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and distilled to give 2-hexanone.

Although this experiment has successfully prepared 2-hexanone, there are still some shortcomings, such as insufficient yield and more by-products.
